Professor Cho Yoo-seok of the Division of Design at the National Incheon National University (President Park Jong-tae) won the Best Paper Award at the "2024 Korea Society of Basic Design & Art Autumn International Conference" held at the Jeonbuk National University International Convention Center from Nov. 29 to 30.
Founded in 1999, the Korea Society of Basic Design & Art is the largest academic organization in Korea in the field of design and art (9,792 members/as of August 2024). The association holds various international academic conferences, lectures, and international invitations for the study of "creative formations" that are in line with academic research and applied studies, focusing on "basic formations" related to all fields of design and art, and publishes specialized books, academic journals, and exhibition books to enhance the academic development of "basic formations" and the academic status of domestic and foreign design and art fields.
The paper, written under the theme of "User Experience Analysis of Wearable Healthcare Device," was selected as the best paper in recognition of its high academic value by using online reviews, experience information written by a number of real users, to solve the problem of the quality difference of results depending on the capabilities of investigators, even though it takes a lot of time to obtain experiential information of real users in the existing user research stage.
Professor Cho Yoo-seok said, "This research is a research project conducted as part of the 'New Technology Convergence Design Innovative Talent Development Project' organized by the Korea Design Promotion Agency and funded by the government (Ministry of Education, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy), and it is a basic study to present effective design cues for the design development of wearable healthcare devices such as watch, band, and ring in the recent trend of the medical industry, which is developing more preventive than post-treatment. In particular, it is meaningful to present a plan to collect effective real-user experience information to practical designers who develop user-centered designs."
On the other hand, Professor Cho Yoo-seok won the "Best Work Award" at the "Gwanghwamun International Art Festival (GIAF) invitation 2024 KSBDA Sejong Special Exhibition" held at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts from October 23 to November 4, showing a high level of academic status with a balanced theory (methodology) and practice (form research) required in academic research in the design field.
