Center for Science and Culture in Incheon Cheongna Ecological Environment Experience Event
A Family-Friendly Environmental Education Festival… Promoting Resource Circulation and Ecological Conservation
The Center for Science and Culture in Incheon (Director: Professor Kisoon Han, Department of Creative Human Resource Development, Incheon National University) and the Cheongna Office of the Incheon Environmental Corporation (President: Seonghoon Kim) jointly hosted the “Cheongna Eco-Environment Experience Event” on June 21 at the Cheongna Resource Environment Facility. The event was successfully held, attracting strong participation and public interest.
This citizen-participatory eco-cultural program was designed to help the public directly experience and learn the importance of environmental protection and the value of resource circulation. Over 1,000 people of all ages—from children to adults—attended the event.
Twelve themed experience booths were set up under the themes of “Environmental and Ecological Experiences” and “Resource Circulation Activities.” Visitors engaged with topics such as climate change, recycling, biodiversity, and upcycling, gaining firsthand experience and practical knowledge. Notably, the activities were designed to naturally promote everyday environmental practices such as waste separation and resource reuse.
One unique program allowed participants to exchange unused books from home for flower pots cultivated using waste incineration heat, connecting the concept of resource circulation to daily life. The collected books were donated to local libraries, contributing to the spread of reading culture in the community.
In addition, a variety of family-friendly performances took place on the main stage, including musical shows for children and families. Around the venue, guests enjoyed face painting, stilt-walking clowns, and traditional games, creating a festive atmosphere. A “Media Sharing Bus” was stationed at the entrance, offering hands-on media education programs such as TV, radio, dubbing, and kiosk experiences. This holistic approach transformed the event into a comprehensive experience that blended environmental, cultural, and media education.
Professor Kisoon Han, Director of the Center for Science and Culture in Incheon, remarked,
“This event served as a valuable opportunity for the local community to cultivate ecological awareness and resource circulation consciousness through a citizen-participatory educational activity that combined science and the environment. The Center will continue to strengthen its role as a platform that promotes science culture through accessible, everyday experiences.”
Programs at the Center for Science and Culture in Incheon are funded by the Science and Technology Promotion Fund and Lottery Fund, and supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity (KOFAC).
