Trump 2.0 Administration and Cooperation and Peace in East Asia – Poster
The Institute of Chinese and Overseas Chinese Culture (Director: Professor Jeong-a Jang) at the Academy of Chinese Studies, Incheon National University, will host the international conference “Cooperation and Peace in East Asia under the Second Trump Administration” on Sunday, October 26 at Songdo Convensia in Incheon. This academic conference aims to explore changes in the regional order in East Asia and examine possibilities for cooperation from multiple perspectives, while strengthening the foundation for future academic exchange and international collaboration.
With the launch of the second Trump administration, South Korea, China, and Japan are facing complex challenges, including reciprocal tariff policies, restructuring of industrial supply chains, and the modernization of security frameworks. As a result, there is a growing need for in-depth discussion on the changes and policy responses that East Asian countries may encounter, individually or through mutual cooperation. In this context, the conference was organized to analyze how shifts in U.S. policy under the Trump administration may affect cooperation and peace in East Asia, while exploring the potential for future regional collaboration.
This international conference is jointly hosted by the Academy of Chinese Studies at Incheon National University, China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing, and Yamanashi Gakuin University in Japan, with 13 scholars participating as presenters.
Beginning in 2024, the three universities have agreed to hold a Korea–China–Japan trilateral conference annually to promote long-term academic cooperation and communication. By hosting this conference in Korea, the Academy of Chinese Studies aims to strengthen its collaborative network with leading domestic and international research institutions and provide a platform for interdisciplinary and global analysis of the changing East Asian landscape.
The conference consists of three sessions.
Session 1, “Shifts in the International Order and U.S.–China Relations in the Trump 2.0 Era,” will feature presentations by Fang Jinyu, Dean of the School of Politics and Public Administration at China University of Political Science and Law, and Chi-young Ahn, Dean of the College of Humanities at Incheon National University.
Session 2, “Security Issues in East Asia during the Trump 2.0 Era,” will include presentations by Professor Hansheng Dong of the School of Politics and Public Administration at China University of Political Science and Law, Professor Nam-ju Lee of Sungkonghoe University, and others.
Session 3, “Competition and Cooperation among the Three East Asian Countries in the Trump 2.0 Era,” will feature Professor Hidetada Higashi of Yamanashi Gakuin University and Professor Hyungjin Cho of the Academy of Chinese Studies at Incheon National University.
Through these three sessions, the joint international conference will bring together experts in diplomacy, security, and economics to explore pathways toward regional cooperation and peace in East Asia amid a rapidly changing global order.
The Academy of Chinese Studies at Incheon National University has led wide-ranging academic exchanges and deepened scholarly cooperation through its specialized research themes and extensive networking not only with mainland China but also Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, and other regions. Building on this joint international conference, the Academy will continue to expand diversified exchanges and establish a foundation for long-term academic cooperation, further strengthening its policy expertise to contribute to external strategic planning.
