Hazardous Chemical Safety Management Training by the Incheon Green Environment Center
Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon Green Environment Center of Incheon National University (Director: Professor Yangsub Bae, Department of Biotechnology; hereinafter referred to as the “Center”) conducted the 2nd Hazardous Chemical Safety Management Training of 2025 on Friday, June 27, at the Northeast Asia Logistics E-biz Center at Incheon National University. The training targeted 100 businesses selected from among 1,625 hazardous chemical handling workplaces in Incheon that applied to participate.
Due to concerns over the coexistence of hazardous chemical handling facilities and residential areas, Incheon Metropolitan City has emphasized the need for heightened caution in the handling of chemicals. Since 2019, the city has implemented hazardous chemical safety training programs aimed at raising safety awareness at workplaces and preventing chemical accidents. The first training session was held on March 25, and the second on June 27. Two additional sessions are planned for the remainder of 2025, to be held once per quarter.
This session featured a lecture titled “Fire Safety Training for Hazardous Chemical Accident Response” delivered by Fire Lieutenant Sanghyun Kim from the 119 Chemical Response Center of the Incheon Fire Headquarters. His session focused on field-oriented safety response practices. Following this, Researcher Taehyung Lee from the Siheung Joint Chemical Disaster Prevention Center gave a presentation on “Chemical Accident Response Support Systems,” introducing the chemical accident response information system, response protocols, and real accident case studies.
In collaboration with the Siheung Joint Chemical Disaster Prevention Center, the Incheon Green Environment Center issues Chemical Safety Point Cards and allocates points to participating businesses. This point system serves as an incentive to promote voluntary chemical safety activities. Points are awarded based on a business’s safety practices, and in the event of a violation of the Chemicals Control Act, the accumulated points may lead to reduced administrative penalties.
Director Yangsub Bae stated,
“In close cooperation with Incheon Metropolitan City, we will continue to provide safety awareness training, response guidelines, and the latest regulatory updates to representatives and managers of hazardous chemical-handling businesses, contributing to accident prevention and regulatory compliance.”
