Professor Byung-hoon Kim
Incheon National University (President: In-jae Lee) announced that **Professor Byung-hoon Kim** of the Department of Physics was finally selected for the **Top 100 National R&D Outstanding Achievements of 2025** by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The Top 100 National R&D Outstanding Achievements is a government-wide program designed to enhance public understanding and interest in the role of science and technology in driving national development, while also fostering pride among scientists and engineers. This year, a total of 970 candidate achievements recommended by various ministries and government agencies were reviewed. Following evaluations by a selection committee consisting of 105 experts from industry, academia, and research institutes, as well as a public verification process, the final 100 outstanding achievements were selected.
Professor Byung-hoon Kim of the Department of Physics at Incheon National University was recognized in the Pure Basic Research and Infrastructure category, one of five awardees in this field. His selection was based on the development of high-performance electronic textiles created by immersing commercially available silk fabric in a dopamine solution to form polydopamine-infused silk, followed by heat treatment. The resulting electronic textile retains flexibility comparable to that of natural silk while exhibiting excellent electrical properties, thereby securing competitiveness in the smart textile market.
Notably, Professor Kim was selected for the Top 100 National R&D Outstanding Achievements in both 2019 and 2025 for his work on electronic textiles, demonstrating his leading role in the field.
This achievement was the result of collaborative research with **Professor Jung-woo Kim** of Incheon National University, **Professor Yeon-ho Kim** of Konkuk University, and **Dr. Hyun-seok Jang** of the Korea Basic Science Institute.
