Incheon National University recently announced that ten INU-affiliated researchers have been listed in the World’s Top 2% Scientists, an annual ranking released by global academic publisher Elsevier and Stanford University in the United States.
The World’s Top 2% Scientists list is a globally recognized indicator of research influence, compiled each year by the research team of Professor John P. A. Ioannidis at Stanford University, using citation data from Elsevier’s Scopus database. Among approximately 230,000 researchers worldwide, the list identifies the top 2% of scholars with the highest academic impact by field, based on a composite metric that includes citation count, h-index, citations excluding self-citations, and other indicators. The list is divided into two categories: the “Career-long” category, which evaluates a researcher’s lifetime achievements, and the “Single-year” category, which evaluates research performance during the most recent year.
This year, INU researchers were selected in the Career-long category in recognition of their outstanding research achievements, which is regarded as the result of Incheon National University’s efforts to build a well-balanced research ecosystem encompassing both foundational academic disciplines and advanced technological fields.
The researchers selected in the Career-long category are Jeon Kwang-gil (Professor of Embedded Systems Engineering, Artificial Intelligence), Heo Jin (Professor of Electrical Engineering, Advanced Mobility), Kim Naehyun (Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering), Kim Jundong (Professor of Electrical Engineering, Semiconductors & Displays), Kim Seungkyu (Professor of Oceanography, Marine Environment), Heo Jongwan (Professor of Urban Environmental Engineering, Construction Technology), Lee Changyeon (Professor of Energy Chemical Engineering, Next-generation High-performance Sensors), Lim Tae-eun (Department of Chemistry, Energy), Ahn Hosun (Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Advanced Mobility), and Ahn Deok-ju (Professor of Electrical Engineering, Advanced Robotics & Manufacturing), totaling ten.
Additionally, 23 Incheon National University researchers were selected in the 2024 Single-year category, showing that INU has demonstrated excellent indicators in both lifetime achievements and recent research performance.
Incheon National University is striving to advance as a research-centered university as the fourth foundation board begins its term. In particular, the university is focusing on revitalizing interdisciplinary research through group research support programs and fostering research personnel and sustainable laboratory environments through the “INU SURE LAB” initiative. An INU representative stated, “We will continue to strengthen our research support system so that world-class researchers can continue to emerge,” and added, “Building on this achievement, we will further solidify our position as a research-centered university and contribute to the scientific and technological development of the region and the nation.”
